Cooperation with other projects

BalticGrid-II cooperates with other, related projects to optimize scientific networking, R&D management, exchange of information as well as education and dissemination activities.

EGEE
The most intensive and diverse collaboration is performed with the EGEE project in the framework of the e-Infrastructure interoperability, as well as dissemination and educational issues. However, the other types of cooperation are also conducted. In general, they include:

• within the BalticGrid-II Education, Training, Dissemination and Outreach activity: participation in the EGEE events (conferences, user forums and exhibitions) and provision of input for relevant EGEE initiated dissemination activities (e.g. press releases, newsletters, brochures, success stories, posters, web-based publications, multimedia material, etc.)

• within Grid Operation activity: investigation of options to support in addition to the current gLite based middleware also UNICORE and ARC middlewares, which have user bases in the immediate vicinity to the Baltic States as well as some user communities using these middlewares also within the Baltics; this gives the region a unique opportunity to act as a beta tester for all of the possible combinations of interoperability between the three middlewares as no other region in Europe has all three middlewares used in the same small region,

• within Network Resource Provisioning activity: investigation of requirements of joining the global European monitoring infrastructures of the GN-2 project - perfSONAR and the EGEE project - NPM; the appropriate software and hardware is going to be obtained and deployed to participate in these infrastructures and to contribute to the global measurement databases with measurements describing connectivity from BalticGrid-II clusters to CERN and other important Grid centres in Europe,
• where appropriate: work with Partners’ national Grid initiatives and international organizations; the Partners of the Project consortium  are the active participants in the international standards and policy development organisations and bodies, in particular in OGF, EUGridPMA and e-IRG,
  
• participation in the events organized by the EU (e.g. the Grid Technology Days or Grid Information Days).

BELIEF-II
The second project, which BG-II cooperates with, is BELIEF-II. In the framework of this cooperation the following activities have been performed:

• the Memorandum of Usage (MoU) between the BalticGrid-II and BELIEF-II project was signed by Ake Edlund and the BELIEF-II project coordinator in October 2008; the document defines the ways of cooperation between the both projects,
  
• the BG-II materials (like public deliverables, presentations, posters, brochures, etc.) are uploaded to the BELIEF Digital Library,
• the BalticGrid-II disseminative materials were presented at a common booth maintained by BELIEF-II (together with BalticGrid-II, SEE-GRID-SCI, GEANT2, EU-IndiaGrid, GridTalk and EELA-2 projects) during the ICT in Lyon, in November 2008.

UNICORE
In March 2009 the BG-II PD Ake Edlund signed the MoU with UNICORE. The document defines the ways of cooperation between the two projects, in line with the interoperability tasks w r t UNICORE.


NORDUGRID
On 7 April 2009 the BG-II PD Ake Edlund signed the MoU with Nordugrid project. The document defines the frames of cooperation between the two projects, in line with the interoperability tasks w r t ARC.
